Fatty liver disease is the result of over-consumption of alcohol.  In other words, diehard alcoholics usually end up with it.  The more an alcoholic drinks, the better chance they have of developing fatty liver disease.

Resveratrol in Red Wine

SIRT1 and AMPK are both associated with fatty liver disease.  Resveratrol, by nature, is strong activator of SIRT1 and AMPK.  The American Physiological Society published the findings of a study in 2008 about how Resveratrol alleviated alcoholic fatty liver in mice during lab tests.

Studying Fatty Liver Disease

In recent years, research professionals have put a lot of time and effort into to figuring out what causes fatty liver disease, thus coming up with a better way to treat and prevent it. What they’ve discovered is that Resveratrol  was able to increase levels of fatty acid oxidation, which ultimately prevented fatty liver disease.

Why is Red Wine So Healthy For Us?

New research shows us exactly why experts have been recommending a glass or two of red wine each day.  As early as 1940, Resveratrol was first discovered in the roots of a plant called Veratrum grandiflorum.  In 1975, it was also discovered that Resveratrol can be found in grapes.  Since 1975, research professionals and experts have discovered that Resveratrol has many health benefits, including with weight loss, anti-aging and may help in preventing and getting rid of cancer and tumors.

How Common is Fatty Liver Disease?

The occurrence of fatty liver disease, unfortunately, is high.  Some doctors consider it to be a real epidemic.  Fatty liver disease can be linked to obesity, diabetes and hypertriglyceridemia.  Approximately 20 % of patients who have been diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease can benefit from Resveratrol, which has been proven to help with the disease.

Drug Interactions

Research shows that Resveratrol may interact with other drugs, such as statins, erectile dysfunction medications and calcium channel blockers.

Side Effects

The most common side effects of Resveratrol that people experience include diarrhea, headache and vomiting. This usually occurs when taking more than 500 mg of Resveratrol a day.  Patients who take less typically do not experience any side effects.

The latest media hype about Resveratrol seems to be in place for a reason.  It would seem that Resveratrol is an excellent supplement to help individuals lose weight naturally, as well as reverse the signs of aging and help prevent and get rid certain diseases, cancers and tumors.  Always follow doctor recommendations  and talk to your pharmacist and/or doctor regarding taking Resveratrol, particularly if you are taking other medications, either over-the-counter or prescribed.
