It can be very annoying to have a squeaky door in the shower. When a door creates a squeaky sound, this means that the hinges are loose. Most of the time, loose hinges are caused by dirty hinges or due to rust.

Squeaky door hinges are very easy to fix. It actually is one of the easiest DIY jobs. The following is a guide on how to fix squeaky shower doors:

  • Step 1

The first thing we need to do is to make sure that the hinge is tight against the shower frame. We can try running our finer along the hinge. If we notice a screw coming out or loose, we will then get a screwdriver to carefully tighten it. We also need to watch not to over tighten them for it will strip the screw threads and it will warp the door hinges. We have to tighten it properly.

  • Step 2

After tightening the door hinges, we have to slowly open and close the shower door and see if there is still any squeaking sound. The sound is often heard on the pivot hinge at the top of the door. This is because the weight of the door strains the upper hinge when it is being opened and closed.

  • Step 3

The next step would be checking the door frame. Mostly, shower doors are made up of aluminum. From time to time, there can be dirt, sand and grit that can enter into the spaces between the frame and the hinge. This makes the hinge loose. To fix this, we need to use a used toothbrush and then gently clean out any grit or debris. With the use of a little soap, we can clean the dirt around the hinges.

  • Step 4

After brushing the hinges, we need to place a paper towel or rag below the hinge so that we can catch any drips. After that, we use WD-40 or even silicon spry directly on the hinge. This will displace the water and will lose any rust or corrosion on the steel pins. Then we have to open and close the door again while spraying right where the hinge and pin connects. We need to continually do this until the squeaking sound disappears.

  • Step 5

We will now have to apply 3-in1 oil to the hinge. We need to work it carefully into the hinge from the inside and outside of the door while wiping off any excess so that it will not cause a slick shower floor after. We can also use paraffin or beeswax to clean the hinge.

  • Step 6

After all the above procedures are done, we use liquid soap to clean the brass hinges. By diluting a few drops of liquid soap, we can work it into the hinges. We can also use a cloth or a soft toothbrush to do the job. This will loosen any debris. After that, we apply a drop or two of 3-in1 oil to the while nylon hinge
