Tiling The Floor Way
Tiles are good protection for our floors. Instead of having a bare floor way, adding up tiles onto it would create a more sophisticated look to it. This project can now be easily done by us homeowners ourselves.

Most of us think that tiling the floor is a very difficult job. We often just call on the handyman and pay them to do the job for us. With this, we spend too much for just the renovation of our floor ways. Now, we ourselves can do the tiling of our floor ways with just simple easy steps.
The following are the ways on how to tile our floor ways:
- Step 1
For every tiling project, the first and foremost step is always the cleaning. We have to thoroughly clean the floor before engaging to the tiling itself. We have to take off everything that lies on the floor including carpets and other flooring materials. We also need to remove any nails and staples from the floor. After that, we have to vacuum it so that there will be no dust left on the floor after cleaning it.
- Step 2
Next step is to measure both the ends of the floor way. By using a chalk, we mark the center of the length of the room of the width of the room. The intersection of the two lines would be the center of the room.
- Step 3
After measuring the floor and determining the center of it, the next step is to lay out the tiles, this time without the thin set mortar. We start from the center cross point and the lay the tiles in place by using ¼ inch tile spacers between the tiles. Laying out the tiles will give us idea of what the entire space would look like after finally securing them on place. This will save us from further errors that might ruin all the earlier procedures.
- Step 4
After checking for any problems, we now go to mixing the thin set mortar by following the instructions on the directions. We then have to apply the thin set mortar in small amounts using a trowel. The trowel will help spread the thin set and get it edged at a 45-degree angle. This will remove any excess mortar on the tile. After that, we have to press the tiles onto place on the mortar. We have to make sure that we apply the tile spacers in between the tiles. After that, we continue to install the entire tiles on the whole floor way.
- Step 5
For any odd sizes to fit the floor, we have to cut out the tiles. By using a tile saw or a tile cutter, we cut them into shape and then place them just like how we placed the first tiles. After all the tiles have been placed and adhered, we wait for an entire day to let it dry.
- Step 6
We will now mix the grout. We can apply the grout by using a rubber float while pushing it into the grout and into the tile joints. After that, we wipe the excess from the top of the tile.
- Step 7
With the use of a damp grout sponge, we wipe away the grout haze from the tiles. We need to be careful not to wipe away the grout from the lines. We will then have to wait for another 24 hours before walking on the floor way.
