Writing A Children’s Book

There is a difference between children’s literature from the adult’s literature. For people who are planning to write their very own children’s books, here are some helpful tips and guidelines for us to know what a children’s book needs to have.

• Step 1

First thing to do is to figure out what we would like to write about. We have to understand first that we are writing for children. We need to know what interests children most. It would be inappropriate if we write about real estate and business for a children’s book. We have to stick to the basics, and has to write what we think would be loved by children.

• Step 2

Second thing is to know our audience. We need to know that parents are a part of every child’s book. Parents are the ones that will buy our book and they get to read it for their children. We also have to include taking in mind whether the parents will approve the book we are writing. Parents are the first ones that should be interested with the book. We need to write for both our audiences.

• Step 3

Because we know that parents read our books, there should be a gap filled between the interests of the child with the interest of the parent. Good children book writers have the ability to find a way to where the adult reader can relate with the children’s perspectives through the book they are reading.

• Step 4

Another thing to know about writing a children’s book is to add lots of colors to it. Children love books that are very colorful. Good illustrations with bright colors would be perfect. Most especially for children who don’t know how to read yet, the illustrations inside the book will help them understand what the story is all about and would keep them interested with the story. Even the adults would love a colorful and detailed children’s book.

• Step 5

When we are writing children’s books, we should not be afraid to develop interesting concepts. Most of today’s children’s books are very shallow. This is due to the children’s limited mind capacity. We need to know how to communicate with children. Our books will feed a young mind, and we have to know what their capacity is. Children’s books’ authors are actually gifted. They have the ability to nourish a mind that is younger than theirs. Even if we are adults, we have to know how a child feels, what they want, and what interests them. Only that way we can become good children’s book writers.
