Writing A Poem
Another interesting form of writing is Poetry. There are a few restrictions in writing a poem though it can be done freely. It is a very good way to express the feeling of a writer. Poetry is something that anyone can do.
Anyone can write a poem. As long as we have a pen and paper, plus the perfect feeling for it, we can write poems anytime. There are so many kinds and types of poetry, and we can be as artistic as we want. The idea here is not to follow rules but on how to effectively express someone’s feelings.
The following are the steps and guidelines on how to write a poem:
- Step 1
The first and foremost thing we should have is the inspiration. This can come unexpectedly and it can strike us anytime. Once we have the inspiration, then we have to write it right away. Poems can be about anything. It is an art of how we express our feelings and write them down into a beautiful pile of words. It is a very good way to release the feelings that we have inside without saying it verbally.
- Step 2
The next thing we should do is brainstorm. We need to write down everything that comes into our minds. We don’t have to think too much for this. It is after all just ours. We only have to think about how we like our poem to be, and not about what other people has to think.
- Step 3
Next step is choosing what kind of form we like to have in our poem. There are a lot of forms available that we choose from, or we can also write it in our own forms. Once we know which form we want, then the ideas will keep coming out. Usually, we know poems to rhyme phrases. Though as the years passed by, modern poets have their own styles and other poems do not even rhyme at all. It will be all up to us.

As we go along and write our poem, we have to remember our rhythm and meter. There is a difference between the rhythm and the meter. Both are important in writing poetry. The meter is the created pattern of the poem while the rhythm is the sound of the poem when it is spoken and both needs to be taken into consideration when we are writing a poem.

It is important to use descriptive words into our poem. Creative and imagery words will make our poem more interesting and appeals into all poetry senses. We all know that poems describe what we feel exactly about the subject that we are writing about. We have to describe them well enough with the needed feelings to it so the readers may understand what we are trying to convey.
- Step 6
Last thing we need to remember when writing a poem is to get outside the opinions. We need to share our written poems with others and accept whatever criticism they have to our work.
