During our school years, we are squeezed with lots of academic activities. Sometimes we get tired of them. This is when extracurricular activities come in pretty handy.

Extra Curricular Activities

If we try to balance academic activities and other activities, we can better enjoy our school life. Extracurricular activities make us active both in our social life and even make us fit and active at all times. Choosing the right extracurricular activities to join in will make us love our school years more. Preschools and high school years will be just boring without engaging to other activities away from academic ones.

Here the guidelines to help us choose the right extracurricular activity for us:

  • The first thing to remember about extracurricular activities is that they are supposed to be just ‘extras’. Our main priorities would still be our academic activities. We need to balance between our school works and our extracurricular tasks. Joining some clubs from school or any sports in that matter is good for us, but we have to maintain our academic grades. Our school will help us how to balance it and we can find support from our counselors.
  • If possible, we can talk it out with our parents and tell them that we are planning to join some clubs in school. They will probably approve of it if we choose the one that we can easily cope with. For example, if they know that we are good at writing, then joining a writing club will be okay with them.
  • We need to make sure that we join clubs where we can enjoy ourselves. We don’t have to join the ones we are not good at and be pressured with it after. We already get too much pressure from our academic activities and it is better if the extracurricular ones will be easier for us.
  • Be sure that we won’t get bored with the extracurricular activity that we have chosen. Sometimes, other students join a club just because their other friends joined it too. If we don’t feel like joining it because we really like it, then it is sure we won’t enjoy our participation. It should be the one we really like to join in to so that whenever we have activities, we won’t get bored while we are there.
  • One or two clubs for extracurricular activities is enough. Having too much will be a lot pressure for us. Remember that it should just be an extra and our academic studies are still our priority.
  • Before joining some extracurricular activities, we have to make sure first that we can still manage our time. We need to ask ourselves if we can still have time for ourselves after these extracurricular activities to study our lessons at home. Remember that extracurricular activities alone cannot give us a passing grade. We need to have more time for our academics than any others.
  • We also need to consider if we are healthy enough to join them. For example if we are planning to join a sports club, we have to make sure that we are fit enough for it and we don’t have to try hard just so we can join.
