Giving Our Cat A Proper Diet

A cat’s healthy weight should be our weight should the same weight when it was still one year old – not unless it was already an obese cat. If our cat is 5% above the optimal weight, then it is the time when we need to give it a diet.

Here are the guidelines on how to give a proper diet for our pet cats:

• The first and foremost thing we should do is to consult a veterinarian before putting up our cats on diet. The vet knows the right and safe way on how to diet a cat. There may be things we should know before getting into the diet process at hand.
• During our meeting with the vet, we need to discuss with them about the approximate number of pounds our cats needs to lose. This is normally calculated with the cat’s obese weight minus the optimal weight.
• Dieting our cat does not mean no feeding them at all. Instead, we need to feed them with foods that are formulated that are specifically for weight reduction.
• We can also feed then with dry foods that contains at least 10% fat and with more than 15% fiber. This will give them just enough fats for their metabolism.
• When choosing for cat foods, we need to look at the label and see if it will give enough nutrients for our foods.
• There is a certain cat food that is a weight-reducing meal. By feeding an allotted amount of this mea daily, our cat will sure to gain weight, without starving it.
• Even if we continue feeding our cat, we need to reduce the amount of food we feed him each meal. It is time for the cat to find alternative foods like mice and other small animals.
• Just like when we are trying to lose weight, we often check our weight on the weighing scale. The same goes through with our cat. We need to weigh it at least once every two weeks to see if there’s any improvement in his diet.
• Playing with our cats will help them reduce weight. Cats are known to be lazy and just lying around. If we play with them, they can get enough exercise and we can be sure that they will stay fit.

Those are the steps on how to give our pet cats the proper diet. Just an advice, however obese our cats would be we should not force them to get into dieting. Sometimes the more obese our cats are, the more difficult for us to diet them. The best thing to do then is watch our cat’s diet starting when it’s still small. That way, we do not have to worry when it grew older and no fat cats lying around.
