The easiest way for us to own a cat is to adopt one. We can adopt stray cats to give them home and shelter.

Stray Cat Adoption

Adopting a stray cat will not only benefit us as its owners, but also give it a home. Stray cats are the ones found on the streets and the local shelter takes them and makes them available for adoption. There is nothing more a stray cat desires than to have its own home and owner. Our responsibility is to take care of it, and give the cat its needs and keep them loved and sheltered.

For people who are planning to adopt a stray cat, here are the ways on how to:

We can find stray cats from our backyards, or somewhere in the streets. Sometimes, these cats have owners but don’t take care of them that much that are why they ran away and look for food outside. If ever we found one without further identifications like a collar for example, we are free to adopt it, although the best and most legal way to do this is from local animal shelters. The animals from the shelters are also caught from the streets. They take them and give them a temporary home in the shelter until someone will adopt them.

Next thing we should do is to get a pet carrier. This way, we can place them inside the carrier and take them outside so that they can smell fresh nature air. Stray cats were before homeless and they get to have their days staying outside. If we adopt them, they will sure to miss the outdoor air. If we let them see outdoors at times, then we are sure that they will not run away.

The first few days of adoption would be the establishment of trust between the owner and the cat. To so this, we offer foods and drinks to the cat so that it will know that we are not going to hurt him. The time we are going to feed the cat will make it feel that he has a home.

Before petting the cat, we first should have it checked by the vet for any problems. We need to ask for an overall examination so that we can find out it needs any treatments. Because it came from the outdoors, we have to check for fleas, skin infections, and worms. We do not want dirty and sick cats into our homes, so it is best that we treat them.

Now that we have our own cats, we have to register them and get a license. That way, we can be the legal owners of the cat and no one can take it away from us. This can also be helpful just in case our cats get lost, we can have the authorities find it, and others will know to whom it belongs to.

Last thing is to name our cat with a name we feel that will suit it perfectly. Now we can enjoy having our own cat at home.

Unsuccessful mating will result in a 7- to 10-day cycle with another cycle recurring every 2 to 3 weeks. Successful mating will shorten the cycle to 4 days and prevent future cycles during the gestation period. Once the litter is born, another estrus cycle can occur within 1 to 6 weeks.

To permanently stop the heat cycle, spay your cat. In addition to preventing heat cycles, spaying can help protect cats against uterine infections and cancers, including breast cancer.
