Understanding Baseball
Baseball is known to be a national pastime most especially for the western countries. There is a lot to learn to be able to play baseball. This article will tell us an overview about this sport.

The goal of baseball is to gain score points or “runs”. This is done by advancing the players around the three bases and then coming at the “home” base. The opposing team is going to prevent the other team from having home runs. If they fail to get to run, they will be “out”.
You need to learn all the nine positions for each team. In a team, there should be 5 infielders which is the catcher, first baseman, second baseman, third baseman and the shortstop. There is going to be three members of the team that is going to be the outfielders: left fielder, center fielder and right fielder. Those positions only come into play on defense.
The next thing you need to learn is how to pitch. Each game starts with the pitcher throwing the ball towards the home plate and then a batter stands in the base with a bat, which is from the opposing team. The pitcher will try to make the batter swing the bat at the ball and miss it. That is what we call “strike”. Another way to get a strike is to throw the ball into the "strike zone," an area directly over home plate between the batter's chest and knees that is deemed hittable, without the batter swinging. A ball that is hit into "foul" territory is also considered a strike. If the pitcher gets three strikes on a batter, the batter is out by way of a "strikeout," except that a foul cannot be considered as a third strike.
After you have learned about pitching, the nest thing is to learn the defense. When the ball is hit, by one of three ways: catching a ball that's been hit into the air before it touches the ground, tagging the base runner when he's not on a base or if the base runner is forced to run to a particular base, touching that base while holding the ball.
Of course if you know about the defense, you also need to know about offense. In this, the batter will aim to get to the base while hitting the ball to a space on the field of play or the “fair ground”. It should not be caught before it hits the ground. That is called the “hit”. The batter can also get on the base if the pitcher will throw four pitches outside of the strike zone. It is called “balls”. That will result to “walk”.
The batter then can either swing the bat to hit the ball or simply hold the bat horizontally and let the ball hit it, a tricky maneuver known as a "bunt." If the batter gets a hit that results in him reaching first base, it is a "single," while second base is a "double," third is a "triple," and if the batter is able to reach home on the hit, it's a "home run."
Another is learning about base running. There can never be more than one offensive player on base at a time, so when a base runner is on a base that his teammate is running towards, he must run to the next base. Base runners cannot pass one another. Once a runner is on base, he can also "steal" the next base as the pitcher throws to the next player to come to bat.
You also need to learn about the errors of the game so that you can recognize if one is making a mistake. You also need to learn about the innings which is when teams take turns batting, and once each team has come to bat and made three outs, that is considered one "inning." There are 9 innings in every baseball game.
