Entertainment: The Entire Story

All work and no play make jack a dull boy.

In the humdrums of life, we seem to have lost leisure in its totality. Working from a cubicle day after day loses its charm, even if one enjoys his work. Since time immemorial, this exhaustion on professional front has been a subject of deliberation and concern.  This is because a professional fatigue eventually triggers down to the personal level and vice versa. To avoid burn outs, many major companies organize a on a regular basis, holidays, picnics and parties and are also equipped with all sources of entertainment for their executives to cool off.

Entertainment through the ages

Unbelievable though it might seem, there were days before the arrival of television, internet, video games and radios. Yes, in those days, people did have a good time and they did not have to rely on machines to relax themselves. They relied on traditional means of entertainment-  a fun camping trip, making music, indulging in art and sculpture,  a game of cards or croquet, reading books and magazines; and an all time favorite, theatre – a culture that has survived even to this date.

With technical advancements, as a civilization, we have devised better means, both indoors and outdoors, to keep ourselves amused. We have at our disposal, safari villages, amusement parks, game hubs, movies- which have advanced from silent to 3D, high definition audio resources and portable machines to entertain ourselves even on the go.

Why do we need to amuse ourselves?

Since we are fighting higher levels of stress, we need to be able to unwind as much more.  What’s more is that we need to be able to make changes to our sources of enjoyment to keep our interest alive.  In fact, the present generation has borrowed and improvised on some sources of entertainment of our ancestors. The theatre and opera have remained largely untouched by changing times and their essence still remains the same and they continue to draw crowds.

At the same time, given the fast pace of the world, one has to keep trying to move up the ladder. Entertainment is often merged with knowledge imparting techniques. This is not to say that pure amusement is extinct but just that educational means of fun are also available should one need them

Entertainment in a nutshell

Pun intended, nowadays, we have available portable and miniature devices to help us stay amused. Tiny music players and TVs, laptops and electronic books have added a whole new dimension of usability to these sources of entertainment.
