Religion is a collection of cultural and belief systems, that relate human beings to spirituality. There are different kinds of religions and faiths in the world that people adapt. Many religions have holy books, symbols, traditions and histories that are intended to give meaning to life or to explain the origin of the universe. For example, Muslims follow the sacred book called Quran. This article describes the various religions and beliefs of people around the world.
Beliefs of Various Religions
Belief is strong faith on the existence of God and every aspect of life. The following are the world’s principal religions and spiritual beliefs, classified into a few major groups:
Christianity believes in one God, Jesus Christ, who chose to be born of a Virgin, Mary. Christians believe in trinity of God. Their sacred book is the Bible. It preaches that the blood of animals could not take away the sin of man. Therefore, God humbled Himself and came onto this earth as a normal human being in order to sacrifice Himself on the Cross, through which we are set free from the bondage of sin and have eternal life with Him after death.
Islam the teachings of Islam are based on the Holy Quran. Muslims believe in the oneness of God and that Muhammad is the last prophet. Shia and Sunni are two largest sects in Islam.
Hinduism is not a religion with a formal creed but it is a complex result of 5,000 years of continuous cultural development, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda. Hinduism believes in polytheism. Majority of them live in India.
Atheist this is a group that does not believe in the existence of God. About 64% of Japanese and 48% of Russians describe themselves as atheists.
Buddhism founded by Gautama Buddha and seeks to emulate his example of perfect morality, wisdom and compassion. Buddhism had spread to China, Japan, Tibet, Korea and Sri Lanka.
Guru Nanak founded Sikhism. He received a Vision to preach the way to enlightenment and God. He taught a strict monotheism and brotherhood of humanity. Sikhism rejects idol worship. The Sikh homeland is Punjab, in India.
Judaism developed among the wandering tribes of Hebrews, Israelites and Jews. Abraham is the traditional patriarch of the Jewish people. Later on, Moses received God’s commandments at Mount Sinai, collectively known as “Turat”. It is the sacred book of Jews.
Shinto is an ancient Japanese religion. Shinto creation stories tell about the history and lives of Kami who is their deity.
Jainism traces its roots to a succession of 24 Jinas (those who overcome) in ancient East India. The first Jina is believed to have been a giant who lived 8.4 million years ago.
Bahia’s Faith that was founded in Iran by Siyyid Ali-Muhammad. They believe in a single God who has repeatedly sent prophets into the world.
Conclusion
As we read, there are many religions in the world, but it is better for every individual to seek and find the truth. Anybody who has found the truth should let everybody know the truth, by following the same truth.
