The Most Common Religions In The World

The world has lots of different religions that various people have faith in. Some of the most common religions are listed below.

• Hinduism. This is by far the largest religion in South Asia with denominations that include Vedic, Vaishanavism, Folk and Bhakti. Currently, there are more or less 900 million people who believe in this religion. Hinduism entails strong belief in Avatars and Devas which are their Gods in a mortal form. Vishnu is one of the most known examples of a Hindu God or avatar. It is with Hinduism where the work Karma originated—karma meaning the perception of coming back to an individual the result of his good or bad deeds and makes use of karma as a guide in making day to day decisions. Although Hinduism is not the most popular among all other religions, they are very well known for being the oldest major religion ever. They are also the only religion who believes in more than one God.

• Agnostic or Atheist.  Some people do not even consider Atheism as a religion but at the same time the believers in this type of faith has grown in numbers every year. To differentiate Agnostic from Atheist, Agnostics are in the middle of things—they are uncertain. They believe that there may or may not be a God. Atheists on the other hand are very certain in their belief that there is no God at all.

• Islam. The second most popular religion in the world, Islamic religion has 1.5 to 2 billion believers. Islam as the word itself means “submission to God”. In this religion they call there God as “Allah”, their church as “mosque” and their bible as “Qur’an”. The follow the religious teachings of “Muhammad”. They believe in only one God and are firm saying that Jesus is a prophet but not necessarily the son of God.  There main practices are called as “Five Pillars of Islam” which includes five major responsibilities—faith, fasting, prayer, giving alms and going to Mecca (religious centre) for pilgrimage.

• Christianity. This is the most popular among all other religions in the world. Just like Islam, Christians also believes in one God just that they believe God has already lived with humans and died on the cross to save everyone from their sins in the name of Jesus Christ. Usual practices of every Christians include going to church every Sunday and commemorating Jesus Christ’s life on Earth by fasting and praying on Holy Weeks or the lent seasons. Their most celebrated holiday is called Christmas (celebration of Jesus Christ’s birthday) which is now highly recognized and also celebrated even by those who are not Christians. The center of this religion is the Vatican in Rome.

Whatever religion it is that you have, what’s important is that you have complete faith in your religion. There is no problem with having different religions though as all of them are centered to believing in God who is responsible for our existence here on Earth.
