Yoga is not limited to various physical and mental exercises that are prescribed as a part of using it for a healthier and happier life. of course the asanas and pranayama techniques are very much essential. But yoga is much more than that. Yo in Sanskrit means where and ga means heading in a direction. Yoga essentially means questioning oneself about where is he headed in life? That means understanding he purpose of life.

Yoga for better health is the mantra that is being chanted by everyone from children to elders, and from east to the west. The biggest growing business in America today is not Microsoft. It is the yoga business which is making millions of dollars today. People in the western world are highly critical and analytical by nature. Experiencing believes for them and any system or practice presented to them is thoroughly tested. But once they accept the system or practice they follow it religiously, some times they stake their lives in exploring and understanding of a culture and tradition. Yoga for better health is gaining in popularities in the west because of its scientifically proven healthy practices and principles. Today the western societies are gladly welcoming and embracing yoga for better health because of the practical results they have experienced by the yoga methods of meditation and asanas that have given results as alternate to medication in gaining health and happiness. 

Health improvement and maintenance becomes very much easier once an individual learns the healthy practices of yoga and starts practicing in everyday life. However before starting on yoga and asanas it is very much essential to find a real guru who has  at least the working knowledge of yoga and its healthy practices if one is really interested in his health improvement and maintenance in the long run. There are many book gurus who try the do it yourself approach by either reading a boom or watching some asanas on the television or internet. This often leads to wrong results which may affect the individual’s intention of overall health improvement and maintenance.  

For those who are really value health as supreme wealth finding a guru is not a difficult task. In ancient times an Indian teacher had to pass certain tests before a disciple or student could accept him as his teacher or guru. Once accepted the student never questioned the teacher afterwards and obeyed his every instruction to the core. Though it may not be possible in the modern times to do this kind of testing, one can know about a yoga teacher by interacting with the teacher and few of his students before taking him as guru. By following the teachings fully one can very soon attain health as supreme wealth in his life. The real yoga teacher is not soft on his students. He will make them bend their backs and work hard and he himself is very much disciplined and respects the students. He is a practical guide to realizing health as supreme wealth. Ultimate goal is to gain good health and happiness. In real sense, detachment and karma yoga can bring health and happiness.
