English wool combs are very common nowadays. It has been used from the middle ages to arrange wool for revolving by untying the wool yarns and hence they all will run similar to each other. These materials are very common as almost all the home-improvement and hardware supply shops offer them. The competency and convenience of your comb will be dependent upon the application of wool quality. Well wool needs the smaller spikes that are prevailed close to each other, alternatively courser wool calls for thicker and larger spikes spaced at a distance.
However, to make your own English wool comb you require: epoxy, sandpaper, hammer, 4 wood screws, wood stick or paint stirrer, clamps, disposable cup, 8d 2.5-inch spikes, 16d 3.5-inch spikes, catalyst, saw, drill bits, drill, 1 piece of wood, ½-by-4-by-24-inches.
At first you should set up and arrange your convenient work station. Lay a portion of wood that measures 1/2-by-4-by-24-inches ahead of you. Keep all your necessary utensils near your hand reach.
Onto the portion of the wood measuring 1/2-by-4-by-24-inch, drill sum 24 holes in a line up to have room for 16d spikes. Now you keep a break measuring accurate ¼-inch from the line-up of holes or gaps you just drilled and drill similarly a subsequent line up to have a room for 16d spikes. The subsequent line up must have 23 gaps or holes, as they are counterbalance to the first line up.
Again you keep a break calculating ¼-inch from the subsequent line up you drilled, and drill similarly the third line up to have a room for 8d spikes. The line up will have exact 24holes that is allied with former line up. You are all set to chop down the comb portion of your wool comb.
At present, cut off surplus wood by the saw to shape the comb slice, keeping an edge measuring 1/2 –inch between the gaps or holes you pierced and the margin of the wood. Polish the wood properly and slot in the 8d and 16d spikes.
Now you should proceed to stick the clamps to the portion of the comb by which nail tops face up. Unite the catalyst together with epoxy in a not-reusable cup. Stir the combination using a paint stirrer or a wooden stick. Append a flawless coating of the combination you just made, to the peaks of the spike heads. Leave the comb portion to one side for approximately 24hours and for this reason epoxy can be dried painstakingly.
Now the final step arrives. Apply 4 wood screws to affix a part of wood gauging 1/2-by-2-by-24-inches upright to the comb portion. Soon after attaching the comb’s knob or handle, you may cut it off or keep it as it is. Polish the wood more thoroughly if you fix on abridge the knob or handle.
